Here are several ideas you can do at home with your child this summer:
Play a Game:  Children learn so much by playing games with other siblings,
friends, and their parents.  It is a great time to reinforce good turn
taking, being a humble winner or loser, as well as academics.  Simple
games such as Sorry!, Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders, Go Fish!, and
dominoes teach children so many important lessons.
Read With Your Child:  Children should read on a daily basis.  Your child
can read to you or another sibling.  You can also take your child to the
library, get them a library card, and begin building responsibility by
checking out books.  Or, to order books on line click on www.amazon.com
        or www.barnesnoble.com
Math in Daily Life:  Encourage your child to use math for everyday
activities.  Maybe he/she can help you measure ingredients for the
cookies or help get silverware out for dinner.  Think of how YOU use
math, and adapt it for your child.  To see fun math ideas to do with your

Journal Writing:  Buy your child a spiral notebook (available at Target or
Staples) and have him/her write in it every few days.  Subjects to
write about can include daily activites, special excursion, or play dates.
It does not have to be perfect, but practice is essential.  Writing about
familiar topics is easiest for students.
