Project 4: Web site Redesign Short Report
For your final project in English 317, you will individually identify a professional (but poorly designed!) Web site in your field or special interest area (no entertainment sites), test that Web site for usability and design with its targeted audience, and write a short recommendation report to the Web site's organization about how to make the Web site more appropriate for its targeted audience. You should choose a site for which you are the targeted audience and a part of the organization. Please review the resources for Project 4 for help in completing this project.

The goals of the project include the following:

• Improve your knowledge of what makes web pages more usable for specific users.
• Understand effective web design principles.
• Analyze and report what a client's targeted audience wants and needs in a Web site
• Present design and content that are supported by usability testing data.
• Understand strategies for writing unsolicited reports.

You will need to complete the following tasks and documents for this project:

• Usability Test. Test the current Web site with three people who are part of the Web site's target audience. Take notes on your test observations.
• Short Recommendation Report. Write a short report to the Webmaster, explaining why you decided to critique their Web site, your usability tests, and your recommendations for site improvement. This final project is due via e-mail at 6:30pm on May 8.
