Please read and adhere to the following policies:

Rough Drafts
For all projects in this course, class time has been set aside for you and your classmates to share rough drafts with one another. In these workshops you and your classmates will receive advice that will help you improve your writing, and you will see how others are approaching the same writing problem that you are addressing. Because workshops are so critical to both you and your classmates, it is essential that you bring drafts to class on the days that they are assigned.

Professionalism
This course emphasizes professionalism—in the way you approach the task of writing, in the way you work with others, and in the quality of the work you produce. In the course, you should strive to do work that would succeed in the professional world. I will expect you to achieve professional quality in your writing and will evaluate your work on the basis of how well it would succeed in professional circumstances. Therefore, when you turn in projects, they should look—and be—professional in every respect.

Attendance
Because class discussion and in-class activities are important parts of this course, attendance is required. Please arrange your vacations and work for other courses or for your employer so that they don't keep you from attending class. There are, of course, good reasons for missing class, such as illness, a job interview, or a family emergency. Absences of this sort are excusable. However, you should tell me the reason for your absence, in advance if possible. In accordance with the CSULB Undergraduate and Graduate Catalog, students who fail to attend the class during the first week of the semester may be removed from the class roster and replaced with students on a waiting list.

Note that missing more than two classes will negatively impact your Homework and Participation points.

Remember: Even on a day when you have an excused absence, you are responsible for completing and turning in any assigned work due.

Tardiness
Please try and be one time to class. However, I will not penalize you if you are a few minutes late. Please note, though, that there is no 5-minute rule in my class, because there is always a possibility that I may be a few minutes late.

Please do not attempt to turn assignments in late; all assignments are due on the dates listed on the course schedule. If you have an unexpected extenuating circumstance that will prevent you from turning in an assignment on time, please notify me before the due date.

Academic Honesty
Throughout the University, and especially within the English Department, it is absolutely essential that you abide by all rules and regulations regarding academic honesty. For a complete list of these rules, please see CSULB Undergraduate and Graduate Catalog. I will not tolerate or permit cheating, copying, or fortification of any information or documentation in my class.

Rewrites and Extra Credit
I do not allow rewrites in my class. You will have ample time to complete all assignments satisfactorily. Also, I will devote a lot of class time to project work. Therefore, please turn in your best work—it's the only chance you have! I will not offer any opportunities for extra credit.
