August 2023: If you're interested in teaching physics, looking to build confidence in Electricity and Magnetism (E&M), or want upper division physics credit, sign up for PHYS 491D - Pedagogical Content Knowledge in Physics - Electricity and Magnetism for Fall 2023.
This course offers a deeper understanding of E&M, plus the skills and knowledge to teach it effectively. It will cover methods of charging, field theory, circuits, and electromagnetic radiation. Demonstrations, labs, activities, assessments, and common student misconceptions are explored; you'll practice teaching with a real audience. Contact Justin Fournier.
April 2023: The CNSM Safety Office is hiring a student assistant. They will provide all training. Hours are flexible and you will gain experience in lab safety. Open to undergrads and grads. March 2023: Women in Computing (WiC) and Dr. Jelena Trajkovioc are hosting a Mental Wellness Talk by Newton Cheng, a husband and father, world champion powerlifter, and Director of Health and Performance at Google. He will share about his mental health journey; share what he's learned from his life, athletics, and work about managing the tensions between health and performance; and lead a discussion on how we can better manage these tensions with more intentionality across each of the roles we play in our lives. March 2023: In the Data Science Talent Pipeline at CSULB, you work with JPL scientists on a range of innovative projects using satellite data. CSULB students from any major will participate in a workshop that, for some, might lead to a summer (2023) internship at JPL. Students who participate in both days of the on-campus workshop, April 7-8, will earn $200. Flyer.
February 2023: LEAP is an NSF-funded program in which students are paid to conduct research during the 2023-24 academic year with faculty mentors at CSULB. Apply here by March 10, 2023. Flyer.
January 2023: Our colleagues in Economics are recruiting students for an Experiment about Decision Making and Food Evaluation. You'll get some food, watch some videos, complete a survey, and get some money. Flyer.
January 2023: College Corps is recruiting CNSM majors for 2023-24. They offer internships with nonprofits focused on Environmental/social justice and sustainability, Food insecurity, and K-12 education. You take an internship course and earn $10,000 for 450 hours of work. Low-income students and those who are first in their families to go to college receive priority consideration. January 2023: CalFresh Healthy Living is the nutrition education arm of CalFresh, California's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed). It is the largest nutrition education program in the United States, and more than one-third of California residents are eligible for the program. They have released their spring schedule with great events including cooking skills classes and round of master chef challenge.
