The Department of Geography at California State University, Long Beach, has always had a tradition of encouraging and producing research. Research activities have continued their upward trajectory, as new people join the Department and fit themselves into its research culture. New collaborations have developed with people in other departments as well, including Geological Sciences, Archæology, History, and Psychology, and these synergies are generating a lot of scholarship. Similarly, there are collaborations going on with other campuses and institutions, too. These have included projects with faculty from Colgate University, UC Santa Barbara, University of Mary Washington, UCLA, UC Riverside, University of Arizona, CSU Dominguez Hills, Pennsylvania State University, CSU Chico, CSU Los Angeles, CSU Northridge, and CSU Fullerton. Collaborative projects have also involved such agencies as JPL, USRA, NCGIA, the San Dimas Experimental Forest, Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Crystal Cove State Park, Charmlee Wilderness Park in Malibu, and Aerospace Corporation. Community college faculty have participated in research projects at CSULB, too, including faculty from Cerritos College, El Camino College, Long Beach City College, Orange Coast College, and Saddleback College, together with faculty from several high schools in the Long Beach Unified School District. People in the Department do work across the full range of research activities: Scholarly articles and book reviews in refereed publications, books, chapters in scholarly books, popular publications, presentations at professional conferences, invited lectures, contract research and mapping projects, and large-scale grant-funded research. The Department has hosted conferences for the benefit of other scholars and students in the region as well. Click on the links above to learn more about what's going on here in Geography @ the Beach.
