Giving a Poster?

Please format your poster to fit a 4' x 6' (120 cm x 180 cm) board. Make sure that your poster is clearly legible/intelligible from a viewing distance of about 5 feet (1.5 m). Easels and foam board will be available, along with tacks.

Illustrating Your Spoken Paper?

Each breakout room will have a data projector, screen, and a PC laptop. Please get all your graphic materials into viewgraph form (as opposed to overheads or slides), with PowerPoint probably the least problematic format. None of our machines use the Vista operating system so, if your machine is Vista (or Mac), you will need to take special care to ensure that your PowerPoint will display in .ppt (2002) format, to be safest. It would be a good idea to "test-drive" your PowerPoint on a Windows 2000 or Windows XP machine. Please install it on a USB flash drive (USB 2.0 or 1.1 is safest). We will ask for you to copy your PowerPoint onto our laptop's desktop before your session, so that we can run all presenters' viewgraphs from the one machine without having to waste the time it takes to install each person's laptop to our data projector. Please ensure that you do not bring a virus or worm along for the ride!

How Much Time Do You Have?

Each spoken paper has a time-certain, which lasts for 20 minutes, including question-and-answer. The session chairs are going to enforce the times-certain scrupulously, so that people wanting to hear a particular paper can be assured they'll hear it if they enter the room at the scheduled time. Please edit and practice your paper so that it doesn't exceed about 15 minutes. If there are any "no-shows" in your session, the session chairs are not to just move on to the next speakers, as that would deny them the audience that expects them to speak at a given time. The session will simply have a question-and-answer break during the "no-show." If you suspect that you may yourself be a "no-show," please try to get your paper to a substitute speaker who can read the paper for you and collect feedback and questions, if at all humanly possible.

The poster session runs for 1.5 hours. At least one representative author needs to be available for questions throughout this period. The poster session will be held together with the president's reception, so you will be able to move around the room and enjoy hors d'oeuvres and the bar, as long as you keep an eye out for any visitor to your poster.
