About Kent Richmond
Before his retirement in 2008, Kent Richmond taught composition, critical thinking, and linguistics for the English Department and American Language Program. He is interested in adult second language acquisition and the role that vocabulary learning plays in that process. His book Inside Reading 4 (Oxford University Press), now in its 2nd edition, was part of a series that won the David E. Eskey award from the California Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (CATESOL).
Kent spends his spare time writing verse translations of Shakespeare plays in contemporary English, so far completing translations of Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, King Lear, Twelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing, and Macbeth.
Kent is also a musician and vocalist. He is a member of the California Trio, a folk-based group that performs regularly in the Southern California area. You can find him most Tuesday nights playing bluegrass at the Soup Jam in Signal Hill, California.
He received his BA from CSULB in 1975 and his MA in 1977. The Lakewood resident joined the university in 1979 after a teaching stint in Taiwan. In January 2007, his wife Lynne, after many years at CSU Fullerton, joined the CSULB family as director of the American Language Institute.
The magazine Inside CSULB featured Kent as the author of the month in April, 2008.
