  1. hǎo literally means 'you good'. It is a common greeting in Chinese. A person's name can precede or follow it.
  2. The original tone of  is in 3rd tone. It changes to the 2nd tone before another 3rd tone syllable. So nǐ hǎo becomes ní hǎo.
