I have been a Professor in the Psychology Department at Cal State Long Beach for over 20 years, with specializations in perception and human factors. In recent years I have taught the following courses, as part of the Master in Psychology Human Factors Option Program.
|Psychology 418/518 Computer Applications in Psychology||Foundations of computer technology and its application to psychology. Emphasis on real-time control by digital computers in psychological research and applications. (Lecture 2 hours, laboratory 2 hours.)|
|Psychology 627 Human Factors Methods||An advanced graduate level course on methods commonly used in the field of human factors. These methods include analytic techniques used during the design of human-machine systems (e.g., task analysis, simulation), techniques used to evaluate functioning systems (usability testing, critical incident surveys) and techniques used to measure human performance (e.g., workload, situation awareness). All students taking PSY627 learn usability testing methods in Center for Usability in Design and Assessment (CUDA)|
|Psychology 698 Thesis||Planning, preparation, and completion of a thesis in psychology. Must be repeated for a total of 6 units of credit.|
|Psychology 499 and 697 Independent Study||Theoretical and experimental problems in psychology requiring intensive analysis.|
CHAAT, established in 2009 as a NASA University Center with a 5-year $5-million award, performs research measuring human performance in complex systems, including the Next Generation Airspace Transportation System (NextGen). As a research-teaching venue, CHAAT prepares future professionals, through training of students in human factors, aeronautics and other NASA-related disciplines. CHAAT airspace simulations can be run either in-house or in a distributed network with NASA, due to software agreements with NASA Ames Research Center.

CUDA was established in the Fall of 1996 to support the design, development, and use of instructional and productivity technology products and tools in education, industry, and government. Some of the organizations served by CUDA include educational institutions such as the CSU Office of the Chancellor, colleges and universities in the CSU System, the Center for Distributed Learning (CDL) at Sonoma State, government agencies such as national and local Veterans Administrations and private industry including companies such as the Addison-Wesley Longman, Inc., Southern California Edison, Honda, and First American Real Estate.
Established in 2005, The MS in in Human Factors Psychology at CSULB is designed to prepare students to apply human factors skills to the design of jobs, information systems, consumer products, workplaces and equipment in order to improve user performance, safety, and comfort. Since its inception, the number of stduents admitted to the program, and the number of faculty directly involved in the program has grown. Since 2005, MS Human Factors faculty have received over $8 million in funding on various projects sponsored by NASA, The Boeing Company, NSF, CSU Chancellor's office, and Northrop Grumman Corporation.
