"In a completely rational society, the best of us would aspire to be teachers and the rest of us would have to settle for something less, because passing civilization along from one generation to the next ought to be the highest responsibility anyone could have."

                                           Lee Iacocca

Teaching Philosophy

Teaching is the transfer of truths from one person to another.  These truths include everything that can be known, from the mundane to the sublime.   Civilizations adopt ways to systematically pass-on truths.  I am fortunate to be one of those chosen by our society to pass-on truths to others.  I consider my work with students to be both an honor and a privilege.
At the CSU we have a special mission that focuses upon the dissemination, versus the creation, of knowledge to an academically diverse student population.  Former CSU Chancellor Barry Munitz put it this way,

"Big research universities, which draw their students from the cream of the crop, put a fine polish on youngsters who have proved they can make it.  State colleges seek to do something much more difficult: transform raw potential into accomplishment."
