Geographic Education Resources for K-12 Educators

Geography was called out as a basic subject in GOALS 2000: The Educate America Act, which was signed into law in 1994, defined National Education Goals. The National Council on Geographic Education developed Geography for Life: The National Geography Standards in 1994. There are eighteen standards, which form six basic groups addressing geographers' traditional understanding of their field. States have autonomy over education, developing their own standards. California has divided the content of geography, subsuming geography under the History/Social Science Standards and putting much of its physical geography content under the Science Standards. Some of geography's geospatial technology content is also found in the California Technology Education Standards. Here are links to the national and California standards of relevance to geography:
