Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in human geography or related field; specialization in feminist geography; some combination of cultural, development, and/or ethnicity/race studies; demonstrated or potential ability for effective teaching in lower level general education, human geography, and major courses in areas of expertise; demonstrated or potential ability and willingness to advise graduate students and work on interdisciplinary research and grant-development projects, ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
some combination of expertise/and or experience in a region outside North America, with particular interest given to those candidates who have a record of research on/in East Asia, Latin America, Middle East/North Africa, or South Asia, although all regional specialties will be considered; and ability to teach qualitative methodologies as well as advise graduate students interest in research projects that use qualitative approaches.
Duties:
Final determination of teaching assignment is dependent on departmental needs.
- teach lower division General Education courses including Geography of Human Diversity in the U.S., Introductory Human Geography, and/or World Regional Geography;
- develop and teach courses in the areas of gender, race/ethnicity, and/or sexuality studies within the context of geographic inquiry;
- make interdisciplinary links on campus in the areas of both teaching and research with faculty in Women's Studies, Black Studies, Chicano/Latino Studies, and/or Asian/Asian-American Studies, as well as Anthropology, Sociology, Political Science, and/or History (or in any other appropriate discipline);
- teach regional geography in area of expertise;
- teach graduate level courses in human geography, geographic thought, research design, and methodology;
- conduct research and obtain extramural funding in areas of expertise;
- supervise graduate students and teach graduate seminars in Geography;
- attend Geography Department meetings and participate in Geography, College, and University affairs.
Salary Range:
Commensurate with training and experience; salary competitive for urban, comprehensive universities
