[ NASA image of Earth ] Geographers study the interaction between human societies and their environments, characterize the regions and localities that result, and analyze the spatial distributions and processes of particular natural and human phenomena. Being equally a natural science and a social science, geography forms an interdisciplinary bridge between the physical and human worlds. Thus, geographers understand and integrate multidisciplinary approaches and apply them to solve real-world problems.

"As a young man, my fondest dream was to become a geographer. However, while working in the customs office I thought deeply about the matter and concluded that it was far too difficult a subject. With some reluctance, I then turned to physics as a substitute." Albert Einstein
