Ask yourself: Is the declination in the same hemisphere you think you're in?

• Yes?
  • Add declination to rest of equation
  • Put the proper hemisphere suffix after the answer
  • You are done
• No?
  • Subtract declination from rest of equation
  • Ask yourself: Did the answer turn up negative?
    • No (you have a normal, positive answer)?
      • Put the proper hemisphere suffix after the answer
      • You are done
    • Yes?
      • You are not in the hemisphere you thought you were in.
      • Drop negative sign
      • Change the hemisphere and put it after the answer
      • You are done
