Recent Activities:
Appointed to the editorial board of the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America. Serving as the
associate editor for Music and Musical Instruments until June, 2002.
Presented an invited paper titled "A Rayleigh Wave Model for the Lip Reed: Qualitative Aspects" at the
first joint meeting of the European Acoustics Association and the Acoustical Society of America, held in
Berlin, March 1999. Co-authors were Professor Richard Birkemeier and Professor Lowell
Eliason.
Presented a paper titled "Slow-Motion Images of Brass Players' Lips" at the National AAPT Meeting
in Anaheim in January 1999. Co-authors were Michael Lodin (MS thesis student) and Professor
Lowell Eliason. Presented a live demonstration using a trombone.
Delivered the keynote address for wind instruments, "New Perspectives on the Brass Instruments," at
the International Symposium on Musical Acoustics, Leavenworth, WA, June 1998.
Presented a paper titled "Observation of the Brass Player's Lips in Motion" at the 16th International
Congress on Acoustics, held in Seattle, June 1998.
