- Who
needs to attend a training session?
In order for SERVE hours to be credited towards graduation requirements,
students need to attend a session of SERVE training before beginning
their service learning experience in the classroom. Students only
need to attend a training session once.
PLEASE NOTE: Students who are enrolled in EDEL 200/380 receive
training as part of the course, and are not required to attend
a separate training.
-
What
do I need to bring to the training session?
Please bring 2 copies of a current (within the past 12
months) TB test certificate, a notebook to be used as a journal,
and a pen to the training session. You may contact the
CSULB
Student Health Center for information about TB
testing. To register for the training, see Information for Students/
SERVE On-Line Registration: follow Steps 1-3.
- How
do I get placed at a school if Ive already attended a training
session?
All NEW students including students in EDEL 200/380 need to attend
a placement session. Placement sessions are listed separately
from training sessions. CONTINUING
students (who have completed at least one rotation of SERVE) request
placement on-line: see Information for Students/ SERVE Placement
Requests.
-
What
happens after I attend the necessary training and/or placement
sessions?
The SERVE office processes all completed documents (all requests
are submitted through a clearance process before approval can
be granted to begin working in the classroom). A list of confirmed
placements will be posted on the bulletin board outside the
SERVE office, and will be updated on a daily basis. You may
check this list for your name and placement site and then begin
your service-learning assignment.
- Do
I need to have any papers filled out by the schools to confirm
my placement?
YES!
All students fill out a Field Placement Confirmation Form,
available on the bulletin board outside the SERVE office. This
form is to be signed by the classroom teacher and site coordinator,
and turned in the week you start your service hours.
Distribution: white copy to your CSULB instructor, yellow to SERVE
Office, pink for your records. (Students in an Independent Rotation
only turn in the yellow copy to the SERVE office.)
-
Do I need to turn in any paperwork after I finish my hours?
YES!
All students are asked to turn in the Hours Log and Final Evaluation.
The Student Evaluation and Post Test are filled out on-line
when you check out. Forms that are in triplicate are distributed
as follows: white copy to university instructor, yellow to
SERVE, and pink is for your records. If you are in an Independent
Rotation you may also keep the white copies for your files.
PLEASE NOTE: Keep copies of all documents. Students in
courses requiring service-learning, please deliver above documents
to the SERVE office (anything turned in to the instructors is
forwarded to the Department Office, which is separate from SERVE).
WE
WISH YOU A WONDERFUL SERVICE-LEARNING EXPERIENCE!
