1. The following formulas were used to generate segregation scores. The examples give here are for white/black indices, but the same formulas may be used for all combinations of groups.

       B = the metropolitan black population
       Bi = the black population of tract i
       W = the metropolitan white population
       Wi = the white population of tract i
