Project 3 Input impedance of TL—Microstrip Line
Dr. Fei Wang (Due Mar 9 in class)
Objective:
Get familiar with LineCalc function in ADS package.
Procedure
Repeat project 2 using Mstrip Line instead of ideal transmission line.
In order to use Mstrip, substrate need to be defined. See figure below.
Substrate Information:
Er=12
TanD=0.001
Substrate thickness: 15mil
Conductor thickness: 0.15mil
Use default value for other parameters.
Use LineCalc (located under
tools) to figure out the width and length of Micro-strip line, whose
characteristic impedance is 50Ohm and effective angle (E_eff) is 90
degree. (make calculation at
5GHz)
Simulate Zin for both open and short load just as you did in project 2.
Using LineCalc
LineCalc (example shown below) is a very useful tool provided by ADS.
Using linecalc, we can easily analyze a variety of transmission line
based on their dimension (Analyze Button). Moreover, we can design
transmission lines based on requirements on characteristic impedance and
effective angle (Synthesis Button).
Report Requirements:
Only turn in the following screen shots. (No complete report needed for
this project)
