Approach and Hurdle: See pages 140-142 WSI manual & pages 192-195 Swimming & Diving

Dry Land Approach.
Progressions

Step #1. Hurdle Leg and Arm Action (Practice with each leg to determine preference)

Steps #2 #3. One-Step Approach/ & One-Step Approach and Hurdle

Step #4 Minimum 3 steps before the hurdle (3 or 5 step easier starting with non hurdling leg).

Step #5 Standing Jump from the tip of the board

Step #6 One Step Approach from the board (estimate the starting point)

Step #7 Full approach: Each student walks to the tip of the board and turns around and puts their heels about 1 inch from the tip of the board. They perform the full approach and hurdle back towards the anchored part of the board. Students then mark their starting position from where their heels landed after the hurdle. (*Note you can if you're working with small groups use a piece of tape to mark the board). NOTE ENTRY point feet first should be about 5 feet from the board.
