Test Revision Extra Credit

This assignment is due by Monday April 16th, 2012.  This extra credit assignment gives you some feedback and suggestions to help you develop your studying, reading, and writing skills.  You will also practice some techniques for systematically approaching your tests, both during and before the test.

If your test has several comments about style or grammar, go to the linked pages and do some practice exercises.  At the beginning of your revised answer, note which, if any, exercises you completed.

Next, Wallis gave a short lecture on systematically answering test questions and studying.  For the test question you had the lowest score do the following: (1) Print a copy of the reading (or section thereof) relevant to that question.  (2) Print a copy of the test question.  For the question you revise: (Task 1) Go through the reading and try to do the things described in (B) and (C) in the study section of Wallis' Lecture on test taking (slides one and two).  (Task 2) Mark-up the question as outlined in the reading test questions section of Wallis' lecture on test taking (slides four and five).   (Task 3) Rewrite your answer using your road map.  Print your graded test answer and your revised answer.  (Task 4) Turn in all your work to Wallis in class by the April 11th.

You can rewrite only one question, and you can only receive up to 20% additional percentage points to your total original percentage score by rewriting.  You cannot receive more than 100% for a score after revision.  For instance, if you received a 90% on your test and you rewrite your worst question, you can only receive a maximum of an additional 5% for a new total of 95%.  If you received a 92% and rewrite, you can receive a maximum of 97%.  If you received a 52% and rewrite, you can receive a maximum of 67%. I will add points to your original test score based upon your rewrite according to the following scheme:

Original Score % Added to Total Original %
100-90  5% (e.x. 90% to 95%)
89-80 7.5% (e.x. 80% to 87.5%)
79-70 10% (e.x. 70% to 80%)
69-60 12.5% (e.x. 60% to 72.5%)
59-50 15% (e.x. 50% to 65%)
49-40 17.5% (e.x. 40% to 57.5%)
39-30 20% (e.x. 30% to 50%)
