Paradise Cove |

These pictures show Paradise Cove in Malibu (several miles north of the Malibu Pier). They have special significance to me because James Garner’s mobile home in The Rockford Files television series was situated just to the left of The Sandcastle restaurant (pictured above). During the eleven years between when I graduated from CSULB (1974) and returned as a faculty member (1985), these scenes (and that show) were a constant reminder of what I was working toward. When I taught at Fort Hays State University in Kansas (1981-85) two very close friends of mine (two-thirds of the Philosophy Department) were also fans of the show. When they moved to the Los Angeles area several years later we set out to find this location. During the 1975-76 television season David Janssen’s beach house in the series Harry O was located to the right of The Sandcastle. The Sandcastle is now under new ownership and called Paradise Cove Beach Cafe. The website for the restaurant has some nice pictures of this area. |

These pictures show what use to be Alice’s Restaurant on the Malibu Pier. Unfortunately storm damage forced both the restaurant and pier to close in 1995. In 2008 the Malibu Pier reopened. Today, The Beachcomber at Malibu Pier offers excellent dining in the same location as Alice’s Restaurant. |

The picture above, taken by a friendly professional photographer, shows a closer view of the jetty at Seapoint. |

The view in the picture immediately below is from the outside deck of the Ocean View Bar & Grill. From both the inside restaurant and the outside deck of the Ocean View Bar & Grill you can hear the ocean waves pound the seashore shore.
